Minnekhada Regional Park

Minnekhada Regional Park is Port Coquitlam's great network of trails and natural features. Well, arguably the PoCo Trail holds that honour by virtue of sheer scope; but Minnekhada's more than 200 hectares of trails are much more beautiful, well removed from paved sections of the city, and lined by beautiful rainforest.

A large marsh is bisected by a causeway and a bridge, and surrounded by many kilometres of trails. The highlights are the two knolls with their outstanding views, as well as the lookout positioned above the marsh along the Pitt River. Watch for the "log walk", my favourite trail, so named for its natural fallen log bridge through a swamp.

Directions to Minnekhada Park

To get to Minnekhada, drive up Coast Meridian and turn right on Apel, then right on Victoria. Watch for the turn left before the road drops down again, near the power lines' crossing. You are still on Victoria. Drive until you drop down a steep hill, cross a bridge, pass Gilley's Trail on the right (or turn right onto it, then left at the end, if you wish to access Minnekhada from the south, near Minnekhada Lodge), drive another 200 meters, and watch for the parking lot on the right, with its familiar provincial .

*Minnekhada is technically in Coquitlam, as is all of Burke Mountain. But effectively, it can be said to be a part of Port Coquitlam, since it's inaccessible (to landlubbers) except through PoCo.
